How Charlie Woods fared in U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying round

Charlie Woods will compete in the U.S. Junior Amateur for a third consecutive year.

Woods, a rising senior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, won a 2-for-1 playoff at Heathrow Country Club in Lake Mary, Florida on Monday, June 1 to nab the final of five U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying spots.

He shot 68 (3-under) and had seven birdies, including on holes No. 16-18, to finish tied for fifth overall. He then played a playoff hole with Eric Zhao and punched his ticket to the U.S. Junior Amateur, which will be played at Saucon Valley in Pennsylvania from July 20-25.

Woods has missed the cut in his previous two appearances at the U.S. Junior Amateur and will look to advance to match play rounds for the first time this summer. His father is the only player to win three U.S. Junior Amateurs, consecutively and in total, a feat he accomplished from 1991-93.

He most recently finished tied for 28th while defending his victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational. Woods is currently No. 149 in the American Junior Golf Association rankings and committed to Florida State.
