There’s no question Myles Garrett terrorized the Cincinnati Bengals.
Garrett terrorizes most of his opponents, but was almost uniquely a bully of the Bengals. He wrecked AFC North encounters twice per season and drummed up 16 of his many career sacks against the Bengals.
But just like that, Garrett is gone, whisked away to the Los Angeles Rams via trade. Bengals players have so far decided to focus on praising one of the guys who came over in the deal, Jared Verse.
“It’s the hardest division anywhere, whether it’s Myles Garrett or Jared Verse,” Bengals offensive tackle Amarius Mims told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Both great players. Both have been to the Pro Bowl. Verse has been every year he’s been in the league. We came in together. A great player. You’ve got to block both of them at the end of the day.”
Nobody is Garrett, but Verse wouldn’t have been included in the deal if he didn’t have a chance to keep blossoming as a dominant player.
These Bengals, though, are used to focusing on a gamebreaking player on Cleveland’s front seven twice per season. This is no doubt a downgrade that makes the games a little more favorable in 2026.
And there’s something to like about the fact the two biggest trades of the offseason, Garrett and the Bengals getting Dexter Lawrence, swung the trench warfare of the AFC North in the Bengals’ favor dramatically.
