Officers were on patrol on Montana Avenue near North Cotton Street when they heard gunfire coming from up the mountain on Scenic Drive, police reported.

Police were driving toward the location where the gunshots where heard when they stopped a Chevrolet Tahoe that was heading eastbound on the 2500 block of Wheeling Avenue, which connects to Scenic Drive.

Officers found an AR-style pistol and an illegal 3-D printed handgun in the vehicle and Paez was arrested after an investigation determined he allegedly fired the gunshots on Scenic Drive, police stated.

Paez, who also had traffic warrants, was arrested and jailed on charges of unlawful carrying of a weapon and discharge of a firearm.

El Paso County Jail records show Paez, a resident of the Central area, was released on a $2,000 bond on each charge on Saturday, May 30.
