Wright & Company to close, new concept to be announced

Detroit — Award-winning, chef-driven restaurant Wright & Company in downtown Detroit will close this summer and transition into a new concept.

Details were not released about a future concept for the posh, second-floor destination, but management stressed that all private event bookings will not be affected. In fact, new bookings for weddings and other private events will be accepted through the transition.

Wright & Company’s final service will be on July 3.

“Being part of downtown Detroit for the last 12 years has been an incredible privilege,” management said in a statement. “We are deeply grateful to our guests, our staff and the city itself for allowing us to be part of so many celebrations, milestones, date nights, and everyday moments. Thank you for making Wright & Company what it has been.”

Along with places such as Roast Detroit, Gold Cash Gold and Selden Standard, Wright & Company was part of a new wave of Detroit restaurants that caught the eye of national food writers and diners from all over the metro area after it opened in 2014. Co-owner and chef Marc Djozlija was nominated for a James Beard award in the Best Chef: Great Lakes Region category in 2015, as well as an accolade for Food & Wine magazine two years later.

The dining room in the building, which dates back to the late 1800s — it was once the home of the Wright-Kay jewelry firm, hence the name — is known for its long bar, marble tables, banquette seating and a glitzy chandelier hanging over the best booth.

Wright & Company is on the second floor of 1500 Woodward in Detroit. Visit wrightdetroit.com or call (313) 962-7711 to reserve a table.
