Willie Anderson says Bengals Ring of Honor has been too exclusive

Former Cincinnati Bengals great Willie Anderson tweeted June 1 that he thinks the team should’ve been more inclusive when considering candidates for the team’s Ring of Honor.

“I’ve said from the beginning @Bengals should have been putting in 3-5 guys a year in those first 2-3 classes,” Anderson tweeted. “If there were 3 more guys included in the class of Issac Curtis and myself I would have still enjoyed the honor and ceremony. We are so many years behind. The guys from the ’70s and ’80s deserve their recognition before leaving this earth. They should’ve been 1st! We have so many great players in team history picking 2 then next year 1. We gonna be like The Hall of Fame! Just my 2 cents #Whodey.”

The Bengals announced May 27 that they are making changes to their Ring of Honor voting process.

Anderson, who underwent a successful kidney transplant in March, was one of 15 modern-era player finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2026. Neither Anderson nor former Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson received enough votes to be elected in February.

“There is no world where Ken Anderson should get a vote over Bill Belichick,” ESPN’s Damien Woody tweeted in January. Willie Anderson was among those rushing to Ken Anderson’s defense in the replies of Woody’s tweet.
