Colts' Daniel Jones takes another step in recovery process during OTAs

Last week, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones was going through individual drills during the OTA practice. This week, he has already ramped up to participating in 7-on-7 drill work.

After practice, Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that Jones would continue to participate in the 7-on-7 periods during OTAs.

“We’ll keep that trend going probably through the end of OTAs,” Steichen said, via The Athletic’s James Boyd. “And then obviously get him into team stuff (aka 11-on-11) when we get to training camp.”

According to Jake Aruther, Jones was 5-for-6 passing with two short touchdowns during those 7-on-7 drills.

Jones is only 175 days removed from injuring his Achilles in the Colts’ Week 14 matchup with Jacksonville. Helping Jones accelerate through the rehab process has been his “relentless” approach over the last several months, as head coach Shane Steichen put it. Watching Jones on a daily basis attack his rehab has been “impressive.”

Last week, Jones said he “absolutely” plans on being available for Week 1, but even with the progress he’s made, there are still hurdles to navigate.

“Definitely still work to be done and progress to be made,” Jones said, via The Athletic’s James Boyd. “So, I think it’s just continuing to get stronger, continuing to run faster, cut harder. And progress, kind of, according to the program. But it’s been good. I think we’ve hit all our marks so far and we’ll continue to do that.”
