Vote for Section V's Boys Athlete of the Week for May 25-31 presented by Faber Builders

It’s time to take a look at the standout performers from Section V.

Your vote will determine who will be the Faber Builders Boys Sports Athlete of the Week for May 25-31. The players’ credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will be announced on our Instagram page Thursday morning.

The nominees are chosen by our sports reporters. If you would like to call attention to an athlete’s performance to be considered for the nomination, please email sports@democratandchronicle.com by 7 p.m. each Sunday. All athletes who play on Section V boys teams are eligible to be nominated.

The poll can be found at the bottom of the article. Now, let’s meet the candidates.

Simon Aguilar

A senior at Geneseo who ran the fastest 800-meter race in Section V this spring (1 minute, 55.93 seconds) during the Class C3 sectional championships.

Thomas Bailey

A senior who clinched the Section V Class AAA Baseball Championship Series won by McQuaid with a game-winning solo home run in extra innings. Bailey hit the homer at McQuaid.

Noah Collins-Howard

A junior at Rush-Henrietta, Collins-Howard ran the fastest 100-meter dash in Section V this season, 10.55 seconds, during the Class A sectional championships.

Vinnie D’Agostino

A senior on the Kendall baseball team who pitched a shortened perfect game with 12 strikeouts during the Section V Class C2 Tournament semifinals. D’Agostino allowed no runs, hits or walks against Perry. D’Agostino also hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run and added a RBI double. He then finished with a hit during the final, a 3-1 win for Kendall over Genesee Valley/Belfast.

Miles Ditzell

Penn Yan lacrosse player helped his team earn its 29th Section V title with five goals and two assists in the Class D final against Pal-Mac. Ditzell picked up MVP honors after the game.

Luis Falu

A senior on the Monroe/School Without Walls outdoor track and field team who delivered the best long jump in Section V of the season, 23 feet-10.50 inches, during the Class B1 sectional championships.

Grady Goodberlet

Honeoye Falls-Lima boys lacrosse attack was named Class C tournament MVP with a six-goal, one-assist game in the final against Geneva. Goodberlet, a junior, is heading to Maryland after his senior year.

Brodie Joyce

Penfield lacrosse senior paced his team with five goals, as the Patriots defeated McQuaid in Saturday’s Class A final. Joyce, the program’s all-time leading scorer, was named MVP. He is heading to Providence next year.

Colin Rea

A senior at Byron-Bergen who moved to the top of the season’s Section V outdoor track and field 400-meter hurdles leaderboard with a race in 55.41 seconds during the Section V Class C3 Championships.

Ben Rizzone

A senior who helped the Brighton boys outdoor track and field team win the Class A sectional championship, when he ran the fastest 400-meter race in Section V this spring, 48.54 seconds.

Xavier Scott

A senior on the Wellsville outdoor track and field team who ran the fastest 110-meter high hurdles race in Section V this season, 14.17 seconds during the Class C1 Championships.

Will Simpson

Victor boys lacrosse goalie made 16 saves to deny Pittsford in the Class B boys lacrosse final. Simpson, who has a 63% save percentage this season, was named tournament MVP.
