Greek restaurant closes in Delray as nightlife competition intensifies

Lefkes Estiatorio, the Greek import known for its Mykonos-inspired nightlife and polished plates, has closed after fewer than two years in Delray Beach.

The concept, which traces its roots to Athens and Santorini with a later expansion to Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, brought a splashy sense of place to downtown Delray when it opened in August 2024.

Inside, Lefkes dazzled. Gorgeously plated dishes and attentive service defined the experience without tipping into fussiness.

My lunch visit last year featured vibrant dishes such as grilled octopus, spanakopita and a classic Greek salad bright with fresh vegetables, each plate thoughtful and restrained.

During that visit, I was told that on weekend nights, the room shifts into a high-energy scene reminiscent of Mykonos, with DJs and dancing.

But that was before nightlife competition along this stretch of Southeast Third Avenue intensified.

During a recent Saturday night stop, neighboring spots on the same block including Bounce Sporting Club and Good Night John Boy were packed, while Lefkes felt noticeably silent by comparison, a contrast that underscored just how crowded Delray Beach’s party market has become.

The late May closure appears to have been abrupt. The restaurant is listed as closed or unavailable for reservations on platforms including Google and OpenTable.

Boca Magazine reports that the restaurant shut down amid reports of operational and financial struggles, though Lefkes has neither publicly detailed the decision nor returned our emails requesting information.

Its exit also raises a timely question: Has Palm Beach County hit peak Greek, with a wave of Mediterranean concepts crowding the scene over the past two years?
