A pair of national analyst have high expectations for a Spartans defensive back addition via the transfer portal this offseason.
There hasn’t been a lot of positive narrative around Michigan State football this offseason, at least from the national media. But Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz tossed a little of praise the Spartans way earlier this week in their next batch of post-spring intel series.
New Michigan State cornerback transfer portal addition Tre Bell was listed as a player “poised for a breakout season” by Hummer and Zenitz. Bell, who transferred from Iowa State this offseason, is believed to take another step with the Spartans after stepping in as a starter with the Cyclones last season.
“Bell emerged as a starter for Iowa State last season amid a wave of injuries in the secondary. He totaled 638 snaps across 12 games and eight starts. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder has continued his growth path in East Lansing, impressing the new Spartans staff.
“Very focused young man and carries himself like some (future early-round NFL draft picks) I’ve seen during my career,” a source said.”
According to 247Sports, Bell was the highest rated transfer portal addition for the Spartans this offseason. So it should be no surprise that Hummer and Zenitz are high on him entering the upcoming season. This is certainly a positive for Michigan State, who quite frankly could use one considering the national perception is not very high at the moment entering the 2026 season.
