Fire destroys Roush’s Market on W. Thornton St. in Akron

A fire destroyed Roush’s Market at 554 W. Thornton St. on May 30 in the Sherbondy Hill neighborhood of Akron.

Firefighters responded to the commercial fire around 6 a.m. and discovered the building engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported.

The 15,000-square-foot building had been a neighborhood fixture since George C. Roush opened the store in January 1955.

According to Summit County Fiscal Office records, the current owners are Abbas Nael and Awadallah Majed.
