ROCHESTER — Let the championship marathon begin.
Hilton and Penfield will meet in the first of four Section V high school softball championship games on Saturday, May 30. Their Class AA1 matchup will precede three others at the same site.
Penfield reached the Class AA1 final by blanking No. 9 Edison, 9-0, in the quarterfinals before outlasting No. 5 Webster Thomas, 8-7, in the semis. Hilton edged No. 6 Spencerport in a 10-9 quarterfinal before defeating No. 7 Victor, 9-8, four days later.
Penfield owns two wins over Hilton this season, defeating the Cadets on April 8 (14-5) and May 4 (2-0). Follow below for updates all game long.
Penfield pulls ahead in sixth
Penfield seized both momentum and the lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Lexi Cimino scored the tying run on a bunt single by Stephanie Coughlin. Vivian Russo belted a two-run single before Mackenzie Whitehead drove her home on a double to the right field wall.
Penfield leads, 6-3, after six innings.
Hilton leads after four
Penfield got one run back in the bottom of the second inning when Allison Gardner drove in Lexi Cimino on a sacrifice fly. Cimino reached via a one-out double.

Hilton answers with three-run frame
Hilton’s two-out rally led to three runs in the second inning.
Five consecutive singles, including RBI hits by Madison Murphy, Paige Batz and Juliana Sapporito, powered the Cadets. They lead Penfield, 3-1, entering the bottom of the second inning.
Bunt leads to Penfield’s first run
Vivian Russo’s sacrifice bunt led to the game’s first run.
Russo bunted Ella Maley to second base. Maley then broke for third, prompting a throw which sailed into left field and allowed her to score.

Penfield and Hilton are set for a 10 a.m. first pitch at Gates Chili High School.

Gates Chili High School, located at 1 Spartan Way, will host the Section V Class AA1 final. Championship games in Class AA2, A and AAA will follow Class AA1.
