With plans to expand upward and outward, the owner of a highly rated Worthington wings bar will open a new place June 1 in Grove City.
Spencer Campbell said chicken wings won’t be on the menu — for now, anyways — at Dapper Dog Tavern, 4057 Broadway, in an early 20th-century Studebaker dealership that most recently housed a craft-beer taproom called Hop Yard 62.
His other bar, Shakers Public House at 480 E. Wilson Bridge Road, is a frequent inhabitant of Columbus’ best-wings lists.
Dapper Dog, remade with a Prohibition theme and cop-and-mobster murals featuring Campbell’s two dogs, includes a bar faced with the tops of Jim Beam bourbon barrels and sidewalk patio seating.
Campbell said he’ll serve domestic and local beers and plans daily happy-hour specials featuring $1 drafts, wine and well liquor. Food will include small, sharable plates such as mini beef Wellingtons and pretzel.
And here’s the onward-and-upward plan:
By the start of the summer in 2027, Campbell said, he hopes to debut what could be Grove City’s first rooftop patio and additional indoor seating space on the building’s second floor. His lease recently was expanded to include what used to be an apartment above the bar, and he’s begun working with an architect and Grove City officials on plans to add external stairs, ventilation for a new kitchen and other improvements.
Phase 2 also will include chicken wings, he said.
