PLAIN TWP − A 6-year-old girl died May 29 after a fire in the 2500 block of Cathy Drive NE, the Stark County sheriff’s office said.
A man and a 4-year-old child were also transported to hospitals from that fire, which was reported shortly before 5:08 p.m.
Neighbors said the child who died was a girl as is the child who survived.
The man was in stable condition, and the second child was listed as being in critical but stable condition, the sheriff’s statement said, adding that investigators from the sheriff’s office and the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office are trying to determine the cause.
The sheriff’s office did not in its initial statement release the names of the children or the man.
The other agencies besides the Plain Township Fire Department that responded to the scene were the fire departments for Nimishillen Township, Canton and Canton Township.
(This story has been updated to correct the children’s ages and gender; previous information about the ages from the sheriff’s office was incorrect. This breaking news story will be updated as more information becomes available.)
