Springfield Township firefighters rescued an unconscious woman from a fire May 28 after a neighbor reported that smoke alarms were sounding at the home.
Firefighters encountered smoke throughout the McElwain Road home, removed the woman from the home and started lifesaving measures, Fire Chief Brett P. Reinbolt said in a May 29 news release. She regained consciousness and was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital, where she is currently listed in stable condition.
Crews extinguished a kitchen fire.
“This incident highlights the critical importance of working smoke alarms and a well-trained, properly staffed emergency response system,” Reinbolt said. “Due to the quick actions of responding firefighters, a life was saved.”
Springfield Township Police Department and the Lakemore Fire Department assisted.
