Florida baseball will face Rider to open the Gainesville Regional on Friday, May 2.
The No. 8 national seeded Gators (39-19) have 10 of their last 12 games and are hosting a regional for the fourth time in the last six years. Across 40 previous NCAA Tournament appearances, Florida owns a 138-90 record (.605) including a 91-54 mark (.628) in regional play.
Florida has not previously played in a series is first-round foe Rider with the only previous meeting being on May 21, 1992, with Florida posting a 6-1 victory in Gainesville.
The Gators have won 10 of their last 12 games, experiencing an offensive resurgence in that span. In the last 12 contests, Florida has batted .324/.430/.629 for a 1.059 OPS with 32 homers and 30 doubles while outscoring opponents 117-58. The Gators have also homered for 13 straight games.
The UF pitching staff has worked to a 4.81 ERA, .259 batting average against and 123-to-28 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 101.0 innings.
The Broncs enter the regional after having won the MAAC conference tournament and having eight of their last 10 games.
As a team, Rider held a 5.01 ERA and registered 349 strikeouts and 249 walks. The Broncs’ lineup has a .299 team batting average, which ranks No. 47 in the country, and an on-base percentage of .392.
