Port Sheldon and 120th Avenue to close for roundabout construction

A pair of roads will be closed for more than a month amid construction of a new roundabout in Ottawa County.

The intersection at Port Sheldon Street and 120th Avenue in Olive Township is currently a four-way stop. Teams will begin transitioning the spot to a roundabout beginning June 1, according to the Ottawa County Road Commission.

During construction, both roads will be closed to traffic. The work is expected to continue until roughly July 10, though dates are tentative and weather-dependent.

To make the roundabout possible, the existing roadway will be removed 500-700 feet “in all directions” from the midpoint of the intersection. Teams are also installing storm sewer drainage pipes, a concrete curb and a center island for the roundabout — as well as placing permanent signing and pavement markings.

The advised detour route for Port Sheldon Street is 136th Avenue to Tyler Street and 112th Avenue. The route for 120th Avenue is New Holland Street to 112th Avenue and Tyler Street.

South Olive Christian Reformed Church, which is located on the northwest corner of the intersection, will be accessible by eastbound Port Sheldon Street or southbound 120th Avenue — according to OCRC.

Crisp Country Acres, which is located about a half-mile south of the construction site, will remain accessible from northbound 120th Avenue, according to a post on social media.
