Blythe Potter, an Army veteran, esthetician and massage therapist, is vying to be the Democratic nominee in the increasingly dramatic race for secretary of state.
But she faces a multimillion-dollar obstacle: Beau Bayh, the son and grandson of popular Democratic politicians whose campaign war chest could give Republicans a run for their money in November.
After more than a decade without a statewide office win, Democrats are hungry for victory. Some see Bayh and his funds as the best bet; others are inspired by Potter’s no-nonsense approach to her campaign. Delegates will have to choose between the candidates at their convention June 6.
IndyStar sat down with Potter to talk about why she’s running, the money gap between her and her opponent and what she would do differently from current Secretary of State Diego Morales if elected. Watch her interview above.
