With schools closing, Corpus Christi ISD shares two principal moves

Corpus Christi ISD announced leadership changes at two elementary schools for the 2026-27 school year on May 28.

Amanda Vasquez-Kotch will lead Berlanga Elementary School next year. Vasquez-Kotch is currently principal of Kostoryz Elementary School, but the campus is closing before next year due to district school consolidation plans.

Vasquez-Kotch’s career history includes time as a teacher, instructional and assistant principal at Kostoryz Elementary School but her first job in Corpus Christi Independent School District was at Berlanga Elementary School, according to a news release.

Current Berlanga Elementary School Principal Mellissa Clearman is leaving the campus to lead Kolda Elementary School. Clearman’s previous experience includes time as an assistant principal at Moody High School and Adkins Middle School.

“We are grateful to these two exemplary leaders for their enthusiastic willingness to serve our district,” Superintendent Roland Hernandez said in a news release. “Through our partnership with The Holdsworth Center, we have grown in our ability to make strategic placements to ensure the continued success of our district.”

The district announced other leadership changes earlier this year.

Current Browne Middle School Principal Jenifer Guerra-Leos, whose campus is also closing, will lead Carroll High School next year.

Current Sanders Elementary School Principal Marcos Aguilera will lead Windsor Park Elementary School. Sanders Elementary School is another closing school.

In total, the district is closing seven campuses before next year. The district has previously announced that these closures will result in salary savings of over $13.4 million.

According to a district news release, the district is working with employees of closing schools to find new placements filling vacancies at other Corpus Christi Independent School District campuses.
