As May winds down, it is supposed to be a busy weekend on the Forty Acres. The Texas Elite Camp is scheduled for Sunday, and multiple recruits will be on campus for visits. That list now includes three-star EDGE Preston Stauts. The Texas native is part of the 2028 class and is still weighing his options for the future.
Currently, the Longhorns’ target is ranked as the 52nd best EDGE in his class by 247Sports. They also rank Stauts as the 60th best player from Texas. With two years still left in his high school career, those rankings could change as the Mansfield Timberview star continues to improve his game.
While Texas would get a boost with Stauts in the mix, they are not the only program interested in his services. He has also received offers from Arizona, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Tulane, and San Diego State. For the Longhorns, the goal for this weekend will be to show Stauts why Austin is the best place for his college career.
The heavy interest in the Arlington native comes as no surprise. He has impressed every time that he steps on the field for the Wolves. During his career, Stauts has also shown a talent for frustrating offensive coordinators. Those are traits that will help him excel in a competitive conference such as the SEC.
Although Stauts is one of the Longhorns top targets, he is not the only player in the 2028 class they are focusing on. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have also made offers to four-star recruits such as Neimann Lawrence, Ian Thomas, Brysen Wright, Tytan McNeal, Austin Attalah, and Kendrick Harris. Landing any of those players would be a major win for Sarkisian.
As Stauts continues to weigh his options, the Longhorns will be a program to watch. Regardless of what the future holds, it is a good sign that Stauts is willing to make the trip to Austin.
