You know things are going well for Michigan football recruiting, not only when it is setting a torrid pace with getting top-flight prospects to commit, but when even those ranked closer to the bottom of the class start making strong impressions.
247Sports has longtime Wolverines pledge Louis Esposito, the three-star interior offensive lineman from Saline, Michigan, as the second-lowest-rated commit in 2027. Rivals is slightly better, putting him at third from the bottom of the current 15-member class. Even so, Esposito is starting to make a strong impression on the national scene.
The son of former Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito is the longest-tenured commit in the class, and despite being ranked by Rivals as the No. 647 player in the country, he impressed Rivals’ Allen Trieu at the UA Next Chicago camp this weekend — so much so that he was listed as the third-best performer. 3. OL Louis Esposito – Michigan commit
A Michigan commit, Esposito has made great strides this off-season. He’s also coming back from an injury that kept him from the last few camps, so it was good to see him healthy and competing. He looks great physically, measuring in at a true 6-foot-5, and carrying his 290 pounds very well. He’s a tough competitor who we knew was physical on Friday night, but seeing him pass set in a shorts and T-shirt setting really give some context to his athleticism as well. He repped a lot at left tackle, which is not where we think he will play in college, but it was good to see him be able to do that. He won position MVP and had some very dominant reps against good competition.
It will remain to be seen if his standout performance will do anything to affect his ranking, helping him move up. But even if not, that at least shows that those who aren’t as highly-rated as players such as quarterback Kamden Lopati or wide receiver Quentin Burrell very well could make a splash once they arrive in Ann Arbor.
