Mitchell’s Steakhouse, a downtown Columbus staple since 1998, has shut down.
Texas-based Landry’s Inc., which purchased the restaurants in 2014, confirmed the closing to The Dispatch.
“After many wonderful years serving the downtown Columbus community, Mitchell’s Steakhouse on North Third Street has made the difficult decision to close its doors,” COO Shah Ghani said in a statement.
“We are deeply grateful to our loyal guests and team members for the privilege of being part of so many meaningful moments over the years.”
Ghani said Landry’s is working to transfer Mitchell’s employees to the Mitchell’s Steakhouse at 1408 Polaris Pkwy., which remains open, as well as two other Columbus restaurants in its portfolio: Columbus Fish Market and Mastro’s Steakhouse.
Mitchell’s Steakhouse was founded by Columbus restaurateur Cameron Mitchell, who sold them along with 18 Mitchell’s Fish Market locations for $94 million in 2008 to Ruth’s Chris owner Ruth’s Hospitality Group. Ruth’s sold the restaurants to Landry’s for $10 million six years later.
