We have hit the time of the year where it’s quiet around the current team because future teams are being built. Over the next two to three months, recruiting will be the talk of the town, with official visits all over the place. Steve Sarkisian and his staff are looking to build another Top 10 class, including some major targets.
Here is some updates around major targets from this past week:
Easton Royal – Texas WR Commit
This is the crown jewel of the Longhorns class currently and they are fighting to keep it that way. Florida, LSU, Tennessee and Ole Miss are circling but it seems Texas is still in a very strong position. According to Gerry Hamilton, OnTexasFootball reporter, Royal worked out with Arch Manning, Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo and other Longhorns in New Orleans this week. Royal’s recruitment will be one to watch until the end but it seems Texas is still firmly in the driver’s seat.
Monshun Sales – Five-Star WR
The other major WR target is up in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sales is an incredibly talented prospect with elite length. As you can imagine, his home state Hoosiers are the biggest challenge here. Right now, it seems they could be too much to overcome, especially with Easton Royal already in the class. He has official visits to Alabama, Ohio State, Miami as well as Texas coming up. This will be a recruiting that could change quickly but Indiana seems to be in pole position.
John Meredith – Five-Star CB
As this one continues to reach its climax, it shapes up as a Longhorns vs. Aggies battle more and more. The No. 2 player in the nation is also being pursued by Ohio State and Alabama and will make official visits to both places soon. There is no commitment date yet but it seems once that day comes, it’ll be either Texas or Texas A&M.
Briceson Thrower – Four-Star WR
Easton Royal is the headline catcher of the WR class but Thrower is another major target to watch. Thrower checks in at 6’3”, 175lbs with remarkable 50/50 ball ability. Texas has earned multiple predictions in their favor for the North Forney High School product. He will visit Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Illinois and then Texas to round out the process. A commitment could come shortly after and it seems the Longhorns are in a strong position.
Jamar Thompson – Four-Star DL
One of the rather surprising updates this week came from the Boca Raton, Florida defensive lineman. Thompson is a remarkable prospect and it seems the Longhorns are picking up steam in this recruitment. The four-star DL has set an official visit to Austin to round out his upcoming visits, along with Auburn, Miami, Ohio State. Miami is seemingly the biggest competition for Texas but getting the first visit on the board will be very important for the Longhorns.
KJ Green – Four-Star EDGE
As other recruitments heat up for the Longhorns, this one is seemingly cooling down. Green, the Georgia product, is one of the elite prospects in the country but it seems Texas has turned their attention elsewhere. He visited Georgia recently, and is heading to Oregon, South Carolina and Alabama as well. Watch EDGE prospects like Jabarrius Garror, DJ Jacobs and more for Texas moving forward.
