Sales tax holidays for water-efficient and ENERGY STAR products are coming up for Texas from Saturday through Monday, a Texas Comptroller’s Office media release said.
The Texas Legislature created the sales tax holidays, and the TCO estimates they will allow shoppers to save $15.7 million on state and local sales tax for qualifying purchases, the media release said.
“Texans know the value of a dollar, and every opportunity to keep more money in the hands of families and businesses matters,” acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock said in the media release. “These sales tax holidays help Texans make practical purchases that can lower costs, conserve resources and stretch household budgets a little further.”
Texans can buy products tax-free with a WaterSense logo or label for either personal or business use during the Water-Efficient Product Sales Tax Holiday, the media release said.
That includes showerheads, bathroom sink faucets and fixtures, and landscape irrigation controls.
In addition, the sales tax holiday applies to lawn and garden products that help conserve water outdoors such as soaker or drip-irrigation hoses, moisture controls for sprinkler or irrigation systems, mulch and plants, trees and grasses. However, these products can be bought tax free for residential use only.
But there’s no limit on the number of water-efficient or water-conserving products that can be purchased tax free.
What’s more, during the ENERGY STAR Sales Tax Holiday, certain products with the the ENERGY STAR logo can be purchased tax free. They include air conditioners priced at $6,000 or less, refrigerators priced at $2,000 or less, ceiling fans, fluorescent light bulbs, dishwashers, dehumidifiers and clothes washers.
