Mount Union nets grant for marketing program

The American Marketing Association chapter at University of Mount Union has received a $10,000 grant that will help entrepreneurial students develop and create products.

The grant came from the Burton D. Morgan Foundation, awarded in honor of the late Paulette Kachilla, wife of Mount Union Associate Professor Mike Kachilla, who is the college’s director of entrepreneurial initiatives studies.

During an April event celebrating the award, students, faculty, staff and community members, University President Gregory King delivered stressed the importance of innovation, experiential learning and community support to shape the next generation of business leaders.

Professor Joel Evans also addressed attendees, reflecting on Paulette Kachilla’s lasting influence and the couple’s deep passion for entrepreneurship and student learning.

The grant already has made an impact through its inaugural support of two student entrepreneurs – Maddie May of Lore City, Ohio, and Ryan Beauregard of Scotch Plains, New Jersey.

Beauregard’s venture focuses on creating an easy, efficient method to clean saltwater from fishing reels, an idea that meaningfully connects to one of Paulette Kachilla’s favorite pastimes – fishing.
