Quincy Community Schools graduates 63 seniors

QUINCY, MI — Friends and family bundled up in the stands of the football stadium on Thursday, May 21 as  Quincy Community Schools awarded diplomas to 63 seniors in the Class of 2026.

Temperatures dipped into the 50s as Memorial Day approached, marking Superintendent John Denney’s first Quincy graduation.

Senior Scholar Bo Tissue welcomed attendees, and class treasurer Brookelyn Parker read the class poem.

Class president Lilly Gray passed the traditional cane to Class of 2027 president Ary’Annah Freeman, symbolizing the positive transition of leadership to next year’s seniors.

Speakers shed tears of joy and sadness as the students prepared to finish their Quincy academic careers.Senior Scholar Audrey Wortz delivered the charge to the class.

Senior Scholars James Barnett and Austin Norris expressed gratitude to teachers, staff, and class advisors. Secretary Lillian Gould-Zimmer thanked parents, and vice president Olivia Davenport thanked the community.

Nine seniors achieved the school’s highest academic distinction as Senior Scholars: Barnett, Davenport, Braylon Estlow, Saylor Fraley, Gray, Norris, Wyatt Robertson, Tissue, and Wortz. This award is based on a formula that uses grade point average and ACT composite scores, and is also used for Academic All-State and Big 8 All-Academic honors, with 1,700 points required.

Fifteen graduates earned Summa Cum Laude honors with GPAs of 3.9 or higher. Seven achieved Magna Cum Laude with GPAs between 3.7 and 3.89, and five received Cum Laude honors with GPAs between 3.5 and 3.7.

As the sun set, seniors received their diplomas on stage and celebrated with the traditional cap toss on the field.

Friday, May 15, seniors rehearsed after walking through the building where many had attended classes throughout their lives.

In the stadium, the Class of 2026 posed for a photo with the future Class of 2038, the kindergartners from Jennings Elementary.
