Weekend morning news anchor Duke Carter is leaving WISN-TV (Channel 12).
In a May 16 Facebook post, Carter shared that his last shift with Milwaukee’s ABC affiliate would be Sunday, May 24.
Carter didn’t share in the post what’s next for him, but said, “All good news to come. It’s been a pleasure learning about SE WI, especially the weather here! Let’s have some fun before my departure! “414 Farewell Tour” wraps soon! “
Carter joined WISN in summer 2024 as a weekend morning news anchor, and reporter during the week.
He came to Milwaukee from WSLS-TV, an NBC affiliate in the Roanoke-Lynchburg, Virginia, market, where he also was a reporter and news anchor. Before that, the Jacksonville, Florida, native and University of Florida graduate worked at stations in Florida and Louisiana, including in New Orleans, which is where he was raised, according to his WISN bio. He also has his master’s of public administration from Tulane University, per his LinkedIn page.
According to his bio on WISN, Carter was bit by the news bug from watching “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” and wanted to interview and meet different people.
Carter’s colleague, WISN morning and 11 a.m. news anchor Gerron Jordan, shared a photo on his professional Facebook page on May 20 from “a morning team farewell” for Carter at 3rd Street Market Hall ahead of Carter’s last weekend in Milwaukee.
Zoie Henry, the station’s morning breaking news desk anchor and a reporter, posted photos from the farewell on her official Facebook page, too.
“Wrapping up the Duke Carter WISN farewell tour!” she wrote. “It’s so bittersweet he’s such an energetic part of the team from dancing during live shots, singing for a mic check or just a good laugh you’ll be missed!”
This isn’t the only recent change at Channel 12. Earlier this year, meteorologist Lindsey Slater abruptly departed from the station. In March, Slater’s attorney, Robert Corris – who specializes in non-compete contracts – told the Journal Sentinel that Slater wants out of her non-compete agreement and that she has a good case. At that time, Corris said he was “hopeful that it never gets to litigation,” and instead, wanted to reach an agreement with WISN.
Later that month, Slater publicly addressed reactions to her departure for the first time, and said, “see you real soon.” She’s continued providing weather updates via her own social media pages.
In April, WISN announced that meteorologist Jason Dunning would be joining the station later that month, filling the weekday morning slot previously held by Slater.
