Miami Hurricanes baseball is on to the ACC tournament quarterfinals as the team looks to improve its standing ahead of the 2026 NCAA tournament. The ‘Canes can exact some revenge tonight if they beat Boston College, the conference’s biggest surprise of the season.
UM broke out the bats to open its time in the ACC tournament bracket, riding a monster day from Alonzo Alvarez to an 11-2 win over 12th-seeded Stanford on Wednesday, May 20. The catcher belted two home runs that brought home three runs, tacking on two doubles to account for four of the team’s five extra-base hits on a day when everyone else in the lineup recorded exactly one hit. Ace Rob Evans gave up four hits and two walks with six strikeouts over seven innings, and despite loading the bases in the ninth, the much-maligned bullpen did not allow a run, a welcome relief after blowing a five-run lead to rival Florida State.
To reach the semifinals for the fourth time in five years, No. 5-seed Miami (37-17, 16-14 in ACC) will need to take out the feel-good story of the league, BC, whose 36-20 record (17-13 in ACC) landed it the No. 4 seed, its highest ever in the ACC tournament. The Eagles took two of three from the Hurricanes to open the ACC schedule, starting by surviving AJ Ciscar’s eight strong innings to rally against the relievers and win in 11 innings. It will be either Ciscar (4.08 ERA, 1.20 WHIP over 13 starts) or Lazaro Collera (5.05, 1.35, 11 starts) getting the start in the quarterfinals.
Today’s winner gets a day off before playing in the semifinals, where No. 1-seed Georgia Tech expects to be waiting. The Yellow Jackets start today’s action in Charlotte against eighth-seeded Virginia, who outslugged No. 16 Duke in the second round. A conference championship likely wouldn’t be enough to land the Hurricanes a host position for the NCAA regionals, but it would be a great sign ahead of a hopeful run to the College World Series.

When does the NCAA baseball tournament start?
The 64-team NCAA tournament field is scheduled to be announced at noon Monday, May 25 on ESPN2. Regionals will be played at campus sites across the country May 29-June 1 culminating with the College World Series starting June 12.
