Fowlerville was in a good position to advance to the semifinals of the Greater Lansing Hall of Fame Softball Classic Wednesday, May 20, at Ranney Park in Lansing.
But a three-run error in which a fly ball hit by Bella Latuszek went off an outfielder’s glove and over the fence gave Laingsburg a crazy 6-5 come-from-behind victory over the Gladiators.
Fowlerville scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead before Laingsburg erupted for four runs in the top of the sixth, the last three scoring with one out on the outfield error.
“(It) definitely was a range of emotions,” Latuszek told the Lansing State Journal. “At first, I thought she caught it, and I was like, ‘Oh dang.’ And then it went over, and it was an instant burst of excitement and energy knowing that I could be there for my teammates and help our team win.”
