After No. 8 seed Iowa baseball (33-22, 15-15 Big Ten) dropped a 4-3 final to No. 12 seed Michigan State (25-31, 11-19 Big Ten) on Wednesday evening, the Hawkeyes will need to win an elimination game today against No. 5 seed Purdue (36-19, 18-12 Big Ten) continue their season and advance in the 2026 Big Ten Baseball Tournament from Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb.
The winner of this matchup will advance to the conference’s single-elimination bracket, where they will face No. 1 seed UCLA (48-6, 28-2 Big Ten) on Friday. Meanwhile, the loser will likely see their season end, with their NCAA Tournament hopes extinguished.
Iowa won the regular-season series against Purdue this year by sweeping the Boilermakers in their three-game series from Principal Park in Des Moines, Iowa, from May 14-16. During that series, the Hawkeyes outscored the Boilermakers by a 29-21 margin.
