What do I need to bring to the polls?

State law requires registered voters to present one of seven forms of identification in order to vote in person at a polling location. They include:

What’s not allowed at the polls?

When you go to your polling place, you will notice a cone or other distance marker placed 100 feet from the entrance of the building. Inside that 100-foot mark, you are not allowed to post, use or distribute any political signs or literature relating to a candidate, political party or measure.

Under Texas law, people are not allowed to use wireless communications devices within 100 feet of voting stations. Additionally, people are not allowed to use mechanical or electronic devices to record sound or images within 100 feet of the voting stations. These include cell phones, cameras, tablet computers, laptops, sound records and any other device that may communicate wirelessly, or be used to record sound or images.

Texas law prohibits people from bringing a firearm onto the premises. This prohibition does not apply to a peace officer, regardless of whether they are on or off duty.

People may not wear apparel or a similar communicative device relating to a candidate, measure or political party, regardless of whether they are on the ballot or not. If a person is wearing such apparel, they will be asked to remove or cover up their apparel before entering the polling place.
