Talk about a change in tone.
Not that long ago, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was maybe a little too honest and open with the media about his struggles in coming back from injury just to miss the playoffs again.
Fast forward to right now, he’s making sure to publicly praise the sudden aggressiveness of his all-in Bengals.
“This is the most talented roster we’ve had since I’ve been here,” Burrow said, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic. “We’re gonna win a lot of games this year and play great and win the Super Bowl.”
Burrow touched on the dynamic of fan and media perception around his front office, too.
“The front office has taken a lot of heat from the fans, the public, the media. We can put all of that behind us,” Burrow said per Dehner. “They went and made it happen with free agency. And then obviously with Dexter, making a trade like that, that doesn’t happen a ton in the NFL. So it’s exciting to see.”
It’s hard to disagree with or find fault with Burrow’s assessment. The goal entering the offseason was fixing the defense. They spent huge on safety Bryan Cook and edge rusher Boye Mafe, then traded that 10th pick for Dexter Lawrence.
Sure, it all still needs to come together during what is perhaps the most important season in franchise history. No pressure, right? But right now, Burrow’s commentary from a star passer in Cincinnati is refreshing, a sort of cherry on top what has been a surprisingly positive, modernized offseason for the Bengals.
