UTEP’s Dylan Teeter made his week look routine at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regionals at The Gallery Golf Club in Marana, Arizona as he charged to the NCAA finals.
The recently minted Conference USA player of the year turned in commanding performance at regionals, shooting 11-under 205 over three rounds to finish tied for sixth in the 89-person field, and he was easily the top individual not entered as part of a team.
One individual from each of six regions qualified for the NCAA finals (May 29-June 3 in Carlsbad, California) and Teeter did that with eight strokes to spare over the next individual, Nebraska’s Rudy Saurtron (-3, tied 25th).
New Mexico State’s Javier Delgadillo (+3), an El Paso Eastwood High School graduate, was the third individual and tied for 49th overall. Only the top individual (Teeter) qualified for the final starting May 29.
Teeter is the first Miner to advance to the championship round since 2018 (Charles Corner).
The senior from Bixby, Oklahoma shot a 2-under 70 on the first day, a 5-under 67 on a second day that was highlighted with a chip-in eagle on No. 17, and a 4-under 68 for the final round.
He entered the third round with a substantial lead over the next individuals, then birdied holes 1, 8, 15 and 18 while playing bogey free. For the 54 holes, he had 15 birdies, one eagle, four bogeys and one double bogey.
