Notre Dame basketball continues to add to their roster with a Division II standout.
Yoro Diallo is the latest addition to Micah Shrewsberry’s rebuild at Notre Dame. Diallo brings size, versatility, and a nontraditional path to high-major basketball. Diallo had a breakout season at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, where he was one of DII’s most productive players.
An Ohio native and Moeller High School graduate, Diallo was a multi-sport athlete who earned all-league honors in both basketball and soccer before he began his career at Winthrop. Diallo stands at 6-foot, 9-inches and 210-pounds. He appeared in 29 games for Winthrop and then transferred to UVA-Wise and found a consistent role that helped him break out. He started every game and averaged over 14-points, and 8-rebounds per game. And his stats were efficient as he also shot just under 48 percent from the field.
Diallo’s production made him one of the more intriguing options in the front court this spring. His agents Trey Dees and Corey Marcum of EZ Sports Group, confirmed his plans and noted Notre Dame’s combination of ACC competition, player development and staff with NBA backgrounds stood out in his recruitment. Notre Dame was able to beat out East Carolina and South Alabama in order to secure Diallo’s services.
For the Irish, Diallo projects to be a modern combo forward who should be able to help in several aspects of the game. He will certainly have to work on his 3-point shot as his shooting percentage was only in the high 20s. For an Irish program that has lost a lot of talent this offseason, coach Shrewsberry is going to hope that Diallo can bring some locker room experience and toughness to the locker room next season.
