What is the Jets' projected 2026 win total ranking among NFL in 2026?

Optimism around the New York Jets has grown this offseason. General manager Darren Mougey has earned praise for his roster-building approach. The front office has made moves fans can understand. There’s a clearer sense of direction than there has been in years.

For once, the organization feels like it may actually be operating with a coherent long-term plan.

Apparently, FanDuel isn’t impressed.

According to the latest projected win totals making the rounds, the Jets are expected to win just 5.5 games during the 2026 season.

That ties the Las Vegas Raiders for one of the NFL’s lowest expectations. Only two teams are viewed less favorably: the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins, both sitting at 4.5 projected wins. That’s a sobering number.

Here’s the good news. This seems like something the Jets faithful can hang their hats on. It feels like the franchise is actually moving in a healthier direction, but context matters. It’s also needed. The AFC remains brutal.

Even if New York improved, improvement doesn’t always translate immediately into wins when the conference is loaded with proven quarterbacks, playoff-caliber rosters, and legitimate contenders stacked across the bracket. Then there’s the AFC East division.

The Buffalo Bills remain a measuring stick until someone proves otherwise. The defending AFC champion New England Patriots aren’t expected to make a second consecutive Super Bowl appearance with a more difficult schedule, but they aren’t disappearing anytime soon. Even divisional games that look manageable on paper rarely stay that way for long. That makes life difficult fast.

Sportsbooks aren’t in the business of handing out compliments. These numbers aren’t emotional reactions. They’re built around schedule difficulty, roster projections, quarterback outlooks, and expected market performance. So does 5.5 wins feel harsh? Arguments can be made for and against that idea.

That projection suggests the Jets will spend much of the season near the conference basement despite the organizational progress many believe is taking shape.

Maybe that’s fair. Maybe it’s overly pessimistic, but if the Jets want to change how they’re viewed nationally, this is exactly the kind of expectation they’ll need to outperform because right now, the message from Vegas is crystal clear: Progress may be happening in New York. Winning, however, is apparently another conversation entirely.
