The Battle Creek Police Department responded to a report of an attempted abduction Tuesday morning, May 19 near Ann J. Kellogg School.
At about 8 a.m., officers were dispatched to 306 Champion St.
A 9-year-old student was walking to school when she was approached by a 22-year-old Battle Creek man. The child reported she believed the stranger was attempting to abduct her, the police department said in a news release.
The school’s principal witnessed the interaction and confronted the individual, who then left the area.
Officers responded to the area and located the individual a short time later.
The man was lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on a charge of accosting a minor and an additional unrelated charge.
The incident remains under investigation.
