With less than a minute left in the Indiana Fever’s 89-78 win over the Seattle Storm from Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Sunday, Seattle’s Jade Melbourne’s shoulder incidentally made contact with Indiana’s Makalya Timpson’s jaw, sending her sprawling to the ground.
Immediately after the unfortunate collision, Timpson spent a few moments on the floor, surrounded by trainers, and eventually got up and walked back to the locker room with a towel to her face. While Melbourne clearly had no ill intent on the play, a potential loss of Timpson would significantly hinder the Fever’s depth in the frontcourt.
After the game, head coach Stephanie White told reporters that the medical staff had not yet determined which ailment Timpson may have and that she had no current updates at the time.
With the Fever not scheduled to play again until Wednesday against the Portland Fire (1-2) from Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the team will certainly have a better understanding of Timpson’s potential recovery timeline in the coming days.
