SHEBOYGAN COUNTY – Several events return for Memorial Day to honor and remember those who died serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Communities across Sheboygan County will host parades, ceremonies and brat frys on May 25. Here’s what’s planned.
Memorial Day parade and ceremony return in Sheboygan
The Memorial Day parade in Sheboygan will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the corner of Seventh Street and Center Avenue. It will travel north on Seventh Street until Michigan Avenue, where it will turn west toward Ninth Street. The parade will head south until reaching Fountain Park.
Tributes to veterans and active-duty members will be held at a ceremony in the park immediately following the parade. A brat fry will begin after, with all of the proceeds benefiting the Military and Youth Foundation and the Marine Corps League.
Dedication at Lao, Hmong and American Veteran Memorial follows parade
An annual dedication will be held at the Lao, Hmong and American Veteran Memorial at Deland Park at 11:30 a.m. May 25, too. The memorial is celebrating its 20th anniversary with cultural shows, name and panel dedications, and a lunch. A T-28 plane flyover and wreath presentation will also be included.
American Legion in Plymouth will host parade
American Legion Post 243 will host a Memorial Day parade in Plymouth. Starting at 10 a.m. May 25, it will travel from the corner of Caroline Street and Mill Street, head east to North Street and end at Union Cemetery.
Cascade Lions Club also hosting ceremony, brat fry
The Cascade Lions Club will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. May 25 with the Cascade American Legion Post 386 at the clubhouse, 303 W. Water St. A brat fry will follow at noon, with brats, hamburgers, pork and beans, and German potato salad. Several raffles will also be held.
Town of Rhine to host picnic, parade
The town of Rhine’s Memorial Day events, sponsored by St. Peter Evangelical Church, are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 25, with a parade at 1 p.m. and a service to follow on the town hall lawn, W250 County Road FF in Elkhart Lake.
A picnic will feature brats, burgers, fries, beer, soda and desserts, along with activities for kids and bucket raffles.
