Roundup: Granville Christian athlete dominates MOCAL track

Eliana Jackson enjoyed a perfect day May 16 for the Granville Christian girls track team.

Jackson, a senior, crossed in a time of 14.23 seconds to win the 100-meter dash, and she later won the 200 (27.68) and 400 (1:01.29) during the Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League championships at Worthington Christian.

Jackson also joined Emmie Davis, Aliyah Phillips and Taylor Drohman on the winning 3,200 relay (13:31.46).

In the boys meet, Liberty Christian’s Zach Ramsey won the 110 hurdles (22.43).

RUGBY

Warrior Rugby rolls

Sam Crum reached the try line twice, leading No. 2 Warrior Rugby boys to a 48-0 victory against visiting No. 7 Dublin to open the state playoffs.

Jake Lash, Chase Williams, Ethan Horn, Cody West, Nolyn Wilson and Louden Murray each scored a try. Williams added three conversions and Graham Smith one.

Warrior Rugby advances to play either No. 3 Medina or No. 6 Shaker Heights at a date to be determined at Fortress Obetz.

SOFTBALL

Valley still perfect

Emory Whisner pounded two of Licking Valley’s four home runs as a part of a four-hit performance, powering the Panthers to a 12-2 victory against visiting Grove City to complete a perfect regular season.

Whisner also tripled and doubled and knocked in four runs. She struck out two and allowed four hits and two runs in four innings for the Panthers (22-0), who begin the Division IV tournament against visiting Heath at 5 p.m. May 19 for a district semifinal. 

D’Neya Dennis added three hits, including two doubles, two runs and four RBIs, Emma Flowers two triples and two runs and Tori Baughman and Dani Lambert a home run apiece. Morgan Nethers pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

NC beats Watterson

Veronica Bailey hit three doubles, scored three runs and drove in two out of the leadoff spot, igniting Newark Catholic in an 8-6 victory against visiting Bishop Watterson.

Joanna Bailey added three hits, including a double, a run and two RBIs, Brooklyn Kurtz two hits and two RBIs and Joanna Snider, Avery Sullivan and Ela Valenzuela a hit and a run each for the Green Wave (18-9). Aly Rothweiler struck out eight and allowed nine hits and three earned runs in six innings.

BASEBALL

NC beats West Jeff

Max Moore pitched into the sixth inning, and  Alex Nagel struck out three of the last four batters as Newark Catholic knocked off once-beaten West Jefferson 4-2 at Berne Union.

Cash Fluharty led the Green Wave (16-7) with a double, a run and an RBI. Malone Hutchison added a hit and a run, Chris Garber a run and an RBI and Nagel a triple.

Newark wins at home

Brody Randall recorded two hits, a run and two RBIs, sparking Newark in a 7-3 victory against Buckeye Valley.

Landyn Ankrum added two hits and a run, Bodie Smith two hits, including a double, and an RBI and Brody Driskel a double, a run and an RBI for the Wildcats (18-5). Cale Saunders struck out three and allowed eight hits and two runs in 3⅓ innings.

Heath blanks Tri-Valley

Jamison Walsh and Camden Stephens piled up three hits, two runs and an RBI apiece, fueling Heath in a 10-0 victory against visiting Tri-Valley.

Carter Mason added two hits, a run and an RBI, Trevor Enders three RBIs and Macksen Matthews a hit and an RBI for the Bulldogs (13-11). Quentin Sunkle struck out three without a walk in a six-inning three-hit shutout.

Northridge drops home game

Will Higgins, Braden Yoder and Noah Mason each recorded two hits and a run for Northridge in a 10-7 loss to visiting Springfield.

Kash Reeves added a triple, a run and three RBIs and Titus Hardin two hits for the Vikings (12-9). Higgins also struck out one and allowed one hit and one unearned run in 2⅔ innings.
