The No. 8 Florida State Seminoles were defeated by the Miami Hurricanes in their final game of the series, 7-4. They have finished the regular season with a record of 38-16 (19-11 ACC). They are now 27-4 when at home and will be the No. 3 seed in the ACC Baseball Tournament.
In the bottom of the second, FSU’s Nathan Cmeyla homered to deep center field to open the scoring. Miami responded, but not until the seventh inning when Gabriel Milano homered to deep right field, driving in Dylan Dubovik to give them a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the eighth, Derek Williams hit a solo home run to make it a 3-1 game. Alex Sosa also homered, adding another Miami run.
FSU responded with a Hunter Carns single to drive in Brayden Dowd. Cmeyla would also hit a sacrifice fly to center field, which allowed Brody DeLamielleure to score, making it a 4-3 game.
In the top of the ninth, it was all Miami as Vance Sheahan singled up the middle to allow Dubovik to score from second. Sheahan stole home in the same inning thanks to a Cmeyla throwing error. Jake Ogden would also hit a single that let Fabio Peralta score.
FSU could not respond enough to force extras or win, but a Noah Sheffield homer made the final score 7-4.
The Seminoles will look to bounce back in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. Fans can catch that game on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
