Where is the Highway Patrol's OVI checkpoint tonight in Akron?

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be conducting drunken-driving checkpoints Saturday night in several places around Ohio, including in Akron’s Firestone Park.

The patrol announced May 16 that it will operate from 8 p.m. to midnight at 1990 S. Main St.

The checkpoints will be held in conjunction with nearby “saturation patrols,” the agency said.

The statewide OVI (operating a vehicle under the influence) checkpoints, paid for by federal grant funds, are aimed at deterring and intercepting impaired drivers.

“Troopers see far too many people let one bad decision to drive impaired impact their lives and the lives of others traveling on Ohio’s roadways,” said Col. Charles A. Jones, patrol superintendent. “OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from the road.”
