A family of 11, including six children, were displaced by a house fire May 15 in Port St. Lucie, according to the American Red Cross, which assisted the victims.
Firefighters responded just after 7:15 a.m. May 15 to the blaze near Southwest Ray Avenue and Southwest Irving Street, officials with the St. Lucie County Fire District said.
Crews arrived to find flames coming from a rear corner of the home and heavy smoke coming from the front, fire officials said. Initial reports indicated more than one room was on fire, according to fire officials.
Firefighters began extinguishing the blaze while searching the structure and evacuating nearby homes as a precaution, fire officials said.
No one reported being injured, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to the fire district.
