Prep roundup: Lansing Catholic, Haslett win tennis regional titles

DIVISION 4 REGIONAL

Lansing Catholic swept the doubles flights while capturing a third consecutive regional title. The Cougars finished with 19 points, while Flint Powers was the runner-up with 16 points.

Lansing Christian finished third with nine points.

The doubles winners for Lansing Catholic were the tandems of Lily Rule and Haven Topham (No. 1), Layla Corbit and Zellie Raiche (No. 2), Jayda Stowell and Vivian Shulick (No. 3) and Anna Robinson and Kendall Young (No. 4). The Cougars also had Addison Murphy finish as the champion at No. 3 singles.

DIVISION 3 REGIONAL

Gabrielle Asher was the champion at No. 1 singles for Haslett as it finished as a Division 3 regional champion with 31 points. The Vikings swept the singles flights and won three doubles flights while claiming the regional title. F

owlerville finished second with 21 points and Williamston was third with 18 points.

Lexi Pridgeon, Kaia Anastor and Lauren Richey also were regional singles champions for Haslett.

SOFTBALL

FOWLER 6, PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 0 / FOWLER 17, PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 5

The Eagles used a couple of big innings while capturing the outright CMAC title with a doubleheader sweep of P-W. Fowler used a six-run fourth inning in the opener to back a two-hitter by Selena Stump. Saige Miller had a two-run triple and a single for the Eagles in the opener and added three hits, including a homer and triple, and five RBI in the finale. Fowler broke Game 2 open with 11 runs in the second inning.

DANSVILLE 10, PORTLAND ST. PATRICK 1 / DANSVILLE 11, PORTLAND ST. PATRICK 0

Laci Neal had 17 strikeouts while allowing just two hits in the opener and Ryker Graf followed with 16 strikeouts and didn’t allow a hit in the finale for the Aggies in their CMAC sweep of Portland St. Patrick. Graf finished with seven RBI in the twinbill, which included a homer in the opener. Maddie Carter added five hits and five RBI in the wins.

LANSING CATHOLIC 15, EAST LANSING 0 / LANSING CATHOLIC 19, EAST LANSING 5

Avery Dunneback went 5-for-5 with a double, triple and home run while helping the Cougars (20-2) sweep East Lansing. Taylor Dunneback added a home run and Brooklyn Gorski had six RBI in Game 2 for Lansing Catholic.

LAINGSBURG 17, PERRY 3 / LAINGSBURG 13, PERRY 3

Harper Strouse went a combined 5-for-6 with a home run, eight RBI and five runs scored to lead the Wolfpack to a CMAC sweep over Perry. Bella Latuszek notched four hits with a double and five runs scored, Skyler Stiff picked up three hits and three RBI and the win in game two for Laingsburg. Emma Winans tallied two hits and an RBI and Alivia Davis and Bella Hamel each chipped in a double for the Ramblers.

BASEBALL

CHARLOTTE 18, WAVERLY 16 / CHARLOTTE 6, WAVERLY 0

Karter Jackson tossed a no-hitter in game two with 13 strikeouts to help the Orioles pick up a pair of nonleague victories over Waverly. Cam Place went 5-for-8 with five RBI and two runs scored, Cooper Ryan notched the win on the mound to go with two RBI and two runs scored and Mason Croley and Ty Bowzer each tacked on four hits for Charlotte. Jackson DeLong tallied a home run with three RBI and James Darnell chipped in three hits and an RBI for Waverly.

MASON 12, HOLT 10 / MASON 9, HOLT 2

Colton McCaleb picked up five hits, a double, four RBI, four runs scored and a complete game win in game two to help the Bulldogs take a pair of nonleague wins over Holt. Carson Chapin finished with five hits and five RBI and Gerrit Koot added on four hits and a double for Mason. Ethan Parce notched a team-best five hits and two RBI and Jackson Webster added on three RBI for the Rams.

PORTLAND ST. PATRICK 16, DANSVILLE 0 / PORTLAND ST. PATRICK 6, DANSVILLE 1

Jerryd Scheurer went 4-for-5 with four RBI while helping the Shamrocks sweep Dansville in a CMAC doubleheader. Tyler Thelen and Logan Howe each had two hits and two RBI in the opener, while Charlie Thelen struck out 12 and allowed just one hit over six innings in the finale.

EATON RAPIDS 11, EASTERN 1 / EATON RAPIDS 19, EASTERN 6

Wyatt Chick went 4-for-4 with five RBI to lead the Greyhounds to a nonleague sweep over Eastern. Blake Thorn picked up four hits, two doubles and four RBI, Kody Clarke picked up both wins and added on three RBI and Keagan Gochenour tacked on two doubles and three runs scored for Eaton Rapids. Beckett Stevens tallied a triple and three RBI and Matthew Morse, Carlos Gonzalez and Devin Spade each added on an RBI for the Quakers.

OVID-ELSIE 2, CHESANING 1 / OVID-ELSIE 13, CHESANING 10

Trey Palatka scored a triple and three RBI to help push the Marauders to a pair of wins over Chesaning. Lance Wiktorowski finished with three runs scored and two RBI, John Kelly secured the win in game two and an RBI and Chase Fabus chipped in two hits and two runs for Ovid-Elsie.

ST. JOHNS 8, GRAND LEDGE 3 / GRAND LEDGE 10, ST. JOHNS 9

Cooper Parks hit the go-ahead double in the sixth inning to help the Comets split the nonleague double-header with St. Johns. Xavier West and Braedon McDaniels each tallied three hits and three RBI and A.J. Parseghian notched the win on the mound for Grand Ledge. Collin Buzinski grabbed two hits and two RBI and David Thelen notched the complete game win with nine strikeouts in game one for the Redwings.

PERRY 12, LAINGSBURG 4 / LAINGSBURG 8, PERRY 3

Tyger Whitbeck struck out 11 to lead Perry to its opening win in its CMAC doubleheader split with the Wolfpack. Titan Sindel had four RBI to lead Laingsburg in its 8-3 win.

SWARTZ CREEK 5, OWOSSO 4

Eden Ackley and Jacob Doyle each finished with two hits for the Trojans in a nonleague defeat to Swartz Creek.

BOYS LACROSSE

HOLT 21, KALAMAZOO CENTRAL 1

A 12-point first quarter helped the Rams secure a Division 1 regional quarterfinal victory over Kalamazoo Central. Holt will take on Grand Rapids Christian in the regional semifinals at Grand Ledge.

GIRLS SOCCER

OVID-ELSIE 8, CHESNAING 0

Madalynn Bushard led the Marauders with four goals in their MMAC road win over Chesaning. Claire Fruchey contributed a goal and an assist for Ovid-Elsie (12-7, 11-0).
