Former Texas A&M star RB signs massive extension with Miami

Texas A&M football is in good hands under third-year coach Mike Elko, who led the Aggies to the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history, while starting 11-0 for the first time since the early 1990’s. This offseason, after losing over 20 players, Elko and his staff saw a record 10 players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, including transfer WR KC Concepcion, who was picked 24th overall by the Cleveland Browns.

Among all the current Aggies in the NFL, future Hall of Fame pass rusher Myles Garrett and Von Miller always come to mind, while former star running back De’Von Achane, who was selected in the 3rd round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins, has quickly become one of the top running backs in the league after just three seasons, and is coming off his career-high 2025 rushing performance, producing 1,350 and eight touchdowns, paired with nearly 500 receiving yards and four scores.

Already rushing for 3,057 yards and 22 touchdowns, Achane is by far one of new head coach Jeff Hafley’s most important players, and Miami’s front office agrees, reportedly signing the former Aggie back to a 4-year, $68 million deal, cementing his future with the Dolphins. While Achane did not play under Mike Elko, his development after three seasons in College Station is further proof that Texas A&M continues to produce NFL talent at every position.

Heading into the 2026 season, Achane’s elite versatility and track speed will be vital to installing new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowick’s system, especially given the offseason quarterback battle between Malik Willis and former Texas QB Quinn Ewers.
