A pedestrian was killed when he was hit by two pickup trucks when he walked into traffic on Alameda Avenue in South-Central El Paso, police said.
Armando Gonzalez, 60, a Central-area resident, died at the scene of the collision on Monday night, May 11, in the 6100 block of Alameda Avenue near Clark Drive, stated an El Paso police news release by Officer Adrian Cisneros on Wednesday, May 13.
About 8:15 p.m., Gonzalez crossed into the path of a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 driven by Moises Rodriguez, 71, who was heading westbound on Alameda, police said.
Gonzalez was hit by the truck, thrown to the ground and then hit by a westbound 2007 Toyota Tacoma driven by Alexander Chavira, 18, who was “unable to avoid the pedestrian,” police reported. Chavira and Rodriguez are also residents of Central El Paso.
An investigation by the Special Traffic Investigations Unit found that the pedestrian being in the roadway was a factor in the collision.
There have been 20 traffic-related deaths in El Paso this year compared with 22 in the same period in 2025, according to El Paso police numbers.
Man killed in e-bike crash in East El Paso
A 67-year-old man died when he crashed into a trunk of a mesquite tree while riding an electric-bicycle, or e-bike, on a sidewalk in East El Paso, a police spokesman said.
The fatal crash occurred after 8:30 a.m. May 6 along North Zaragoza Road near New World Drive, which is north of the Zaraplex retail center, police said. The man died at the scene.
The death occurred during a crash but because it did not occur in traffic lanes it is not being counted among the city’s traffic fatalities, Officer Adrian Cisneros, a police spokesman, said.
