Who will be the Softball Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital? It’s time to look at the standouts from May 4-May 10
Check out the nominees for lohud Softball Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital, and cast your vote. The athletes’ credentials are listed above the fan poll, which will be open until 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 13. The winner will be announced on lohud sports social media on Wednesday.
Past winners this season: Shivonne Barry, Mahopac; Sofia Haber, Ardsley; Peyton Conti, Clarkstown North; Emma Smith, Kennedy Catholic; Marlena Balic, Westlake.
Let’s meet the candidates.
Emily Baron, Scarsdale
The senior struck out 12 in a 13-5 win over Port Chester on Scarsdale’s Senior Day. In the same game, she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases. For the week, she was 3-for-8 and pitched two complete games.
Alyssa Calvello, Yonkers Montessori
The sophomore picked up her 600th varsity strikeout over the last week. She also had a triple, two doubles, a single and three walks over the last week.
Katie Cole, Somers
Over three games in the last week, the senior went 8-for-11 with two doubles and seven RBI.
Riley Foote, John Jay-Cross River
The junior had three hits and seven RBI over the last week, including a five RBI game against Fox Lane on May 9.
Cayleigh Handel, Tuckahoe
The sophomore, over five games in the last week, was 10-for-13 with two home runs, two triples, 11 RBI and nine runs scored. Handel also picked up her 100th varsity hit in a win over Dobbs Ferry.
Kate Mulqueen, Putnam Valley
The junior pitcher averaged 10 strikeouts a game over three games, including the 250th of her career. At the plate, she went 6-for-10 with a triple, two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored.
Tara Murphy, North Rockland
The senior had a 1.96 ERA in games against Ketcham, White Plains and Pearl River with 16 strikeouts and one walk. At the plate, over four games, she was 6-for-13 with a home run and four RBI.
Siri Rosenberg, Hastings
The senior pitcher was 2-0 over the last week against Pawling and Byram Hills, allowing three earned runs with 22 strikeouts and a 1.62 ERA. At the plate, she had a double, five walks and three RBI.
Emily Rossi, New Rochelle
The sophomore struck out 11, allowing three hits and no earned runs against Yonkers Montessori on May 7 and also had two hits and drove in three runs in the same contest.
Gianna Stracuzzi, Rye Neck
The senior struck out 15 in a 4-3 win over Putnam Valley. At the plate, she was 3-for-6 with two walks and two runs scored.
Riley Sullivan, North Salem
The freshman was named the MVP of the Briarcliff Tournament. Over the last week, she had 16 strikeouts over two games and was 8-for-11 at the plate with three RBI, four runs scored and five stolen bases in three games played.
