There were several standout individual performances across Southwestern Indiana this week. Who gets your vote?
Each week, you can vote for the Courier & Press Athlete of the Week, presented by Orthopaedic Associates. Below you will find the poll for May 4-9 and brief information on each performance. You can vote as often as you’d like until 10 a.m. CT Friday morning.
Quinn Bane, Princeton golf: The senior was the individual medalist in the Princeton Invitational at Princeton Country Club with an even-par 72, including a 2-under on the back nine.
Grayson Coughlin, Memorial golf: The senior was the individual medalist in the Wildcat Invitational at Sultan’s Run with a 1-under par 71.
Kenley Ferguson, Southridge softball: The senior went 7-of-12 with nine RBIs and seven runs in four games for the Raiders, who have won eight of their last nine.
Josie Friend, Mater Dei softball: The senior was 5-for-8 with two home runs, a double and nine RBIs in wins over Reitz and Memorial.
Allison Golba, Memorial archery: The senior shot a career-best 294 (out of 300) in her final archery tournament to finish second out of 2,697 in the high school girls division at the NASP Eastern National Tournament.
Mya Hudson, Pike Central track: The senior broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a winning time of 15.54 seconds on Senior Night against North Posey.
Kinley Miller, Reitz softball: The senior was 8-for-16 with two home runs, five RBIs, six runs and four walks in five games for the Panthers, including a big effort (3-for-3 with four runs and three RBIs) in a win over No. 1 (1A) Barr-Reeve.
Brycen Mroz, Northeast Dubois baseball: The junior was 6-of-13 with three doubles, four RBIs, six runs and five walks in five victories for the Jeeps. Mroz also pitched a complete-game victory with eight strikeouts against Bedford North Lawrence.
Danielle Neel, Castle softball: The junior went 7-of-13 with one home run (a grand slam against Memorial) and nine RBIs in three games for the Knights, who earned at least a share of the SIAC title on Friday.
Alton Ostby, Washington baseball: The senior was 5-for-9 with a triple, double and four RBIs in conference wins over Princeton and North Posey. He allowed two hits and struck out 10 batters on the mound against the latter.
Laney Scherer, Gibson Southern softball: The junior was 7-for-11 with eight runs, six stolen bases and two RBIs in three victories. She became the program’s all-time leader in career stolen bases with four against Princeton.
Tate Schulte, South Spencer baseball: The senior was 6-for-10 with three doubles, one triple, five runs and seven RBIs in four games for the Rebels. He also pitched a complete game with five strikeouts in a win over Forest Park.
Audrey Seiler, Tecumseh softball: The sophomore was 6-for-9 with three home runs and 10 RBIs, plus struck out 23 across nine innings with one hit allowed, in three victories.
