The Milwaukee Brewers return home on Friday night, May 8 as they open a three-game interleague series against the New York Yankees at American Family Field.
Right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (2-2, 2.84) passed all the tests after leaving his last start early with a right hamstring cramp and will start for the Brewers opposite tough left-hander Max Fried (4-1, 2.39) for the Yankees.
Brandon Lockridge tacks on, then goes down
Andrew Vaughn sent a one-out, ground-rule double to center in the third and two batters later Brandon Lockridge stroked a single to center to drive in Vaughn to up Milwaukee’s advantage to 5-0.
Lockridge also upped his average to .294 on the season and his RBI total to 12.
Then, in a case of horrible timing, with two outs in the fourth Lockridge attempted a sliding catch down the left-field line on a sinking liner off the bat of Cody Bellinger but ended up running knee-first into the unpadded portion of the wall.
Lockridge stayed down for a while, then needed to be helped to his feet before being taken off on a cart.
Brewers dink and dunk their way to early lead
Gary Sánchez opened the bottom of the second by muscling a single into right field, then Andrew Vaughn and Luis Rengifo drew walks off Fried to load the bases.
Brandon Lockridge and Sal Frelick followed with run-scoring singles – featuring 74.8 and 62.8 mph exit velocities, respectively – and then a Joey Ortiz fielder’s choice drove in Rengifo.
Jackson Chourio, up next, rolled a single of his own into center at 78.9 mph to make it 4-0.
Fried recovered by striking out Brice Turang and William Contreras, but Milwaukee had taken its pound of flesh from the left-hander by making him throw 40 pitches in the inning.
The Miz just misses an Immaculate Inning
Misiorowski came out firing, striking Trent Grisham and Ben Rice on six pitches and then getting ahead of Aaron Judge, 0-2, before just missing on his ninth pitch.
Judge then flew out to right on his 10th offering – a 103.6-mph fastball.
In fact, all 10 of Misiorowski’s offerings were fastballs that registered a minimum of 102.4 mph with seven coming in at 103 or higher.
Incredible velocity out of the gate for the 24-year-old, and clearly no sign of any lingering effects from his hamstring cramp.
