BATTLE CREEK — The fans have spoken.
The winner of the latest Bronson Battle Creek/Enquirer Athlete of the Week fan poll is Madeleine Thawnghmung of the Lakeview girls soccer team.
Fans got behind Thawnghmung to help her edge finalists Clark Erwin, Ivander McHerron and Angelia Palma. Thawnghmung received 85 percent of the vote by the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline. Thanks to her fans, she is being featured in this Enquirer Athlete of the Week Sunday spotlight.
Lakeview stayed undefeated with a 3-1 win over rival Marshall in girls soccer action. After that win, the Spartans were still undefeated on the season at 10-0-3 after getting two goals from Madeleine Thawnghmung.
“Madeleine is the ultimate team-first player with an incredibly high soccer IQ. She makes the game look effortless, whether she’s anchoring our defense or scoring goals from the midfield. Her versatility was on full display when she stepped in as keeper to stop a critical penalty kick against Portage Central. She shows up, works hard, and is a great person — she is truly the Swiss Army knife of our roster,” Lakeview girls soccer coach Jason Little said.
