Authorities shut down Highway 138 through Piñon Hills as firefighters gained control of a fast-growing brush fire on Thursday afternoon.
The Acorn Fire was first reported about 3:30 p.m. May 7 in the area of Highway 138 and Acorn Drive, according to Cal Fire.
It was initially estimated at about 5 acres in size and was threatening structures.
It had reached nearly 10 acres just over 10 minutes later.
Firefighting aircraft were summoned to assist firefighters on the ground.
Cal Fire declared forward spread of the fire stopped about 4:30 p.m.
“Crews have hose around the fire,” the agency said via social media.
Highway 138 was shut down between Evergreen Road and Desert View Road, Caltrans officials said.
