An Oxnard man is dead after a motorcycle accident May 5, according to authorities.
Around 7:48 p.m., Oxnard Police Department officers responded with emergency responders to a single vehicle traffic crash on Ventura Road, north of Stone Creek Drive, according to a department news release.
Officers arrived and found a Harley Davidson motorcycle down in the southbound lanes of Ventura Road, the release says. The rider, a 34-year-old Oxnard man, was “lying on the raised center median near the motorcycle,” it says.
The rider had suffered “severe injuries” and was taken to the local hospital by ambulance, the release says. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Ventura County Medical Center.
An initial investigation found that the motorcyclist was riding northbound on Ventura Road but is suspected to have struck a raided curb along the center median north of Stone Creek Drive, the release says. The rider lost control of his motorbike and was “ejected” and “landed on the center median,” it says.
The motorcycle continued across the center median and landed in the southbound traffic lanes, the release says.
Oxnard Police shut down traffic in both directions of Ventura Road from Stone Creek Drive to Wagon Wheel Road for several hours and until early morning May 6 to investigate the scene.
Impairment by alcohol is suspected to have been a factor, although the investigation is ongoing, the release says.
The department asks anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer Joey Clarke at 805-385-7749 or joseph.clarke@oxnardpd.org.
